Modern table fans, pedestal fans, wall fans and air circulators use multiple speeds, sleep modes and electronic speed control. Measuring only the maximum airflow does not describe electrical efficiency at every operating point. A multi-speed test system combines programmable power, electrical measurement, rotational-speed acquisition and airflow data so that each operating mode can be evaluated under the same conditions.
1. Measured Parameters
- Input voltage, current, active power and power factor;
- Motor speed and speed stability;
- Air velocity or airflow at the required measurement positions;
- Start-up power and transitions between speed settings;
- Optional temperature, humidity and operating time.
2. System Configuration
The platform typically includes a programmable AC source, power analyzer, RPM sensor, airflow measurement unit, PLC or industrial PC, sample fixture and protected distribution panel. For electronically controlled fans, an infrared transmitter, button actuator or communication interface can automatically change operating modes.
3. Automatic Test Sequence
A recipe can run low speed, wait for stabilization, acquire data, switch to medium speed and continue to high speed. Variable-speed products can be scanned from low to high control input and software can create curves of power, RPM and airflow against control level.

- Install the fan in the required normal-use configuration;
- Set supply voltage, frequency and environmental conditions;
- Verify RPM and airflow sensor positions;
- Create the speed sequence and stabilization time;
- Run a short manual check;
- Start automatic acquisition;
- Review abnormal operating points;
- Export tables and comparison curves.
5. Data Interpretation
Power, speed and airflow should change consistently across speed settings. A large power increase with only a small airflow increase can indicate motor, blade or control inefficiency. Unstable RPM may indicate supply, motor-control or mechanical-load problems. Production laboratories can establish acceptable ranges for automatic screening.
6. Standards and Maintenance
The system can support laboratory work based on IEC 60879, GB/T 13380 and internal manufacturer methods. Final measurement points and calculations should follow the applicable current standard.
